Quisco™
Cactus Inlaid Furniture
Quisco Cactus
inlaid furniture comes from the 22,000 foot
Andes peaks.
It is hand assembled by artisans using Insigna
pines from the wet regions of southern Chile.
Each piece of furniture is painstakingly inlaid
with select pieces of Quisco cactus wood from
the dry Andean hillsides of northern Chile's
Atacama Desert.
Aged metal hardward is applied last. The simple grains and colors of the
Chilean pine contrast with the complex colors
and patterns of holes, pock marks, and cracks in
the cactus wood. This results in a unique style
that is perfect for western, southwestern and
lodge decor themes.
The cactus wood used in Quisco cactus inlaid furniture is pruned from a
species of cactus (Echinopsis Chilensis) that is
plentiful and dominates the north face of the
Andean hillsides of Chile's arid regions for a
length of over 1000 miles. They cactus forests
include specimens ranging in a size from a
short, single-trunked young plants to mature
trees with hundreds of branches reaching over 25
feet in height. These cactus can live for over a
hundred years. In the mature stages of the
plant's life cycle, many of the branches will be
dying or be in various states of decay. These
branches are carefully pruned, making way for
new growth. The cactus wood is used to produce
Quisco furniture. The cactus are not harmed in
anyway. The dying process of cactus wood takes
many years and the exposure to the intense sun,
wind, sand and animals over this period of
decay, gives the cactus wood it's character of
holes, cracks and diverse tones.
The care of Quisco furniture is the same as any solid wood furniture. All
solid wood furniture should be protected against
humidity changes by applying furniture polish or
oils. Keep furniture out of direct sunlight and
use only non-abrasive, non-detergent furniture
cleaner applied to a rag.
This unique furniture is available at Kirstin's Southwest Decor in Yuma.
