It's
Not Just All About Birds
Because of the diversity of the
natural habitat, the Yuma area is home to over 380 species of birds.
The terrain ranges from the Colorado River, lake and marshland areas
to the rocky foothills, expansive sandy plains to the high desert
peaks. The Imperial National Wildlife Refuge, Kofa's Palm Canyon,
Betty's Kitchen Wildlife and Interpretive Area and the Cibola
National Wildlife Refuge provide homes for birds and animals that
live here all year round, while others drop in just for the winter.
Besides the birdlife, the ecosystems in and around the Yuma area
support butterflies, bats, reptiles and small mammals.
The Annual Yuma Birding &
Nature Festival, usually in April , celebrates the rich diversity of
birds and wildlife along the Colorado River. Explore the Sonoran
Desert, Imperial Wildlife Refuge, Yuma West Wetlands, Imperial Sand
Dunes, Palm Canyon & guided tours to Mexico. The scheduled events
include candlelight ghost walks through the most haunted city in
Arizona, batwatching, river tours, visits to a sacred desert
mountain petroglyph area and more. To register and learn more, visit

area.
