Julia ButterflyButterfly Releases at Weddings
Butterfly Organizations, Clubs and Associations in the Southwest

Back to Butterfly Home Page

It seems to be a harmless and beautiful gesture - releasing butterflies at your wedding ceremony. However, many scientists, biologists and entomologists are proving that the shipping of butterflies to areas where they are not native threatens biodiversity, and may spread diseases and among strains of butterflies, as well as among the plants that they pollinate. It also makes the conservation of butterflies virtually impossible as any information about natural habitats and migratory patterns is essential to saving a species. Also, the environment where butterflies are released is often not suitable for them, and many end up dying shortly after being released.
