Welcome to Twentynine Palms, California

Town/City Overview
Twentynine Palms is a strong desert community of approximately 27,000 people, that sits between the 800,000  acres Joshua Tree National Park and the largest U.S. Marine Corps base. Founded on a history of gold prospectors and cattlemen of the late 1800s, a pioneer spirit and love of history permeates the town. Wide open spaces, clear starry nights,  and lots of sunshine (about 230 days a year) beckon to desert lovers and those looking for a more peaceful existence. As gateway to the Joshua Tree National Park, it is also becoming a well-known and loved getaway for both national and international visitors.
Art lovers will appreciate the "Oasis of Murals" commissioned by the Action Council for 29 Palms, Inc. Through their efforts, world class artist have portrayed the history of the community in a series of murals on the exterior walls of commercial buildings. You can visit the Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center to pick up a map of the murals.
Another attraction is Pioneertown, originally built in 1946, as a movie set for western movies. The town provided both a living and working place for actors like Duncan Renaldo (Cisco Kid), Gene Autry, Leo Carrillo (Pancho), Gail Davis (Annie Oakley) and Dick Jones (Buffalo Bill, Jr.). Now the set is home to shoot outs and bank robberies that help visitors relive the old west.
