Blue Satin Alley, second album, Abigail HopkinsBlue Satin Alley – second album released by Abigail Hopkins
review by Lisa D. Smith

Artfully Delicious! Abigail Hopkins’ second album ‘Blue Satin Alley’ proves that there is no limit to true creativity.

Singer-songwriter Abigail Hopkins recently released her second album, ‘Blue Satin Alley’. Her music has been described as a blend of jazz, folk and art-pop, and she has been compared with Patti Smith and Kate Bush. Listening to ‘Blue Satin Alley’ I realized that this lady definitely does not color within the lines – though a bit of an emotional realist, her music is fueled with a deep imagination that is fearless when it comes to something new, keeping a firm grasp on originality. The result – an album that is not only captivating, but powerful as it leads you on a journey of new sounds, melody lines, rhythms and poetic stories.
.
Born in London into a theatrical family, with her father being actor Anthony Hopkins, Abigail's first passion was music, learning classical guitar before her teens, also fostering a genuine love of poetry and the way music and words could work in synergy to create something so unique.  This originality shines on ‘Blue Satin Alley’, from the unique harmonies on ‘I’ll be Waiting for you by the Bus Stand’ a swinging a capella, to the haunting vibes of ‘Ghost Soldier’, no two songs are alike, each portraying their own dynamic sound and story.

Abigail has long been bi-continental, shuttling between London and Los Angeles. The contrasts in landscape and culture have also touched her writing. I had a chance to interview her over the phone, where she talked from her home in London. She told me about the recording process of ‘Blue Satin Alley’, discussed her songs, her inspirations, her writing process, and more.
