How
to make a Snowflake
By

They’re simple and fun to do. Age doesn’t matter. The young
at heart are encouraged to try this as well. They make great
office or cubicle decorations. They’ll fit into any newsroom
budget. And nothing says love like a homemade craft, or so
we’re told.
What You Need:
• Paper – It can be white or more colorful. It can
even have a print or pattern. But for best results, we
recommend it is square.
• Scissors – The best scissors to use are ones with
long handles and short blades that meet exactly at the
point. Don’t use dull scissors unless you want an edgier
looking snowflake.
Some Tips for Success:
• Always have a trashcan close by for the pieces of paper
that don’t make the “cut”
• Smooth over each fold with the back of a fingernail for
best results
• Remember that the most symmetrical patterns are made by
the most precise folding
• Don’t worry about mistakes, because every snowflake is
different
What to Do:
• Get a square piece of paper or trim a piece of paper so
that it is square
• Fold your square in half diagonally to make a triangle
• Fold your triangle in half diagonally again
• Fold the paper in thirds – one side to the front, the
other to the back
• Trim the extra piece of paper off the end of the small
triangle
• Cut some fun designs – circles, squares, triangles,
squiggles – around the outside of the triangle
• Unfold the paper and look at your masterpiece
• Repeat as often as possible before deadline
