Looking for a cool summer getaway with the kids? Well pack your bags and head up to historic Julian, in the San Diego mountain and back country region. There are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy and there are also plenty of family-friendly lodging and dining options. Julian is just an hour from San Diego, and is within 3 hours from Los Angeles, Orange County, San Bernardino County and Riverside County, and the Arizona West Coast region.

Apple Alley Bakery -
Julian is famous for it’s delicious homemade apple pie, and Apple Alley is a favorite stop as their pies are baked fresh without any preservatives. Located at 2122 Main Street. Info: (760) 765-2532

California Wolf Center - Learn about the North American Gray Wolf in the "Wolves of North America" Family Program, which is held every Saturday at the California Wolf Center. This program includes an educational slide show on gray wolves in North America, and a tour with our famous resident Denali wolf pack. Call for reservations (760) 765-0030

Country Carriages - Explore Julian’s scenic countryside in an authentic, old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage. You’ll find the carriage at the corner of Washington and Main Streets, in front of the Julian Drug Store. Click here for details.

Eagle And High Peak Mine - Tour one of Julian's original gold mines. Guides lead you through the intricate path of tunnels in the hard rock mine and share tales of the life of early residents of Julian.  Located at the end of C Street, in Julian. Call for hours of operation - (760) 765-0036

Julian Doves & Desperados - See Julian's own reenactment group.  See them in town on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Historic Skits (weather permitting) at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. & 3 p.m. at their stage area between Cabbages & Kings and the Julian Market & Deli. Info: (760) 765-1857 (ask for Krisie)

Julian Pioneer Museum
- Housed in an old stone building that was once the Mayerhofer Brewery & Treshil Blacksmith Shop, this museum is nicknamed, “Julian’s Little Attic” and is a treasure chest of artifacts from the town’s not-too-distant and colorful past. Located at 2811 Washington St., a block from the Town Hall. Info: (760) 765-0227

Lake Cuyamaca - This family fishing lake is also a great destination for picnicking, boating, hiking, nature walks and wildlife watching.  There are free fishing classes every Saturday at 10am. Located at 15027 Highway 79, only a few minutes from Julian. Info: (760) 765-0515 or (877) 581-9904

Miner’s Diner
- This original olde-fashioned soda fountain is a family favorite! Located at 2130 Main Street. Info: (760) 765-3753

Volcan Mountain Preserve -
This preserve is home to wildlife, wildflowers, and several species of oak and pine. There are guided walks on weekends. Trailhead: off Farmer Road, north of Julian; take Farmer Road to Wynola Road, turn right 100 yards, turn left on Farmer Road; enter trail through stone gates.  Info: (760) 765-2300

Wynola Pizza Express – This family-friendly dining establishment features delicious pizzas and entrees all cooked in an authentic wood-fire oven. Sit indoors or outdoors. They also have live music on weekends. Located just 3 miles from Julian in Wynola. Click here for details.
