French Toast
Danish Apple Bread
Ingredients needed:
One loaf sliced
Danish Apple Bread
Six eggs
One cup milk
½ tsp. salt
6 med. Gala or Jonathon apples, cored and thin sliced
1 stick butter
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Start by melting the
butter in a hot pan, and then add the sliced apples and one tsp. of
cinnamon to the pan. Let the bottom apples get browned before turning
them, then sauté the apples for 15 to 20 minutes, turning frequently until
tender.
Mix the beaten eggs, milk
and salt together in a large shallow bowl, then dip the slices of Danish
apple bread in the batter and drain slightly. Fry in a hot frying pan
with salad oil or butter if you prefer, browning on one side before
turning the slices over. The whole loaf of bread will make 10 large
pieces of French toast, or you can cut the slices in half before frying
for a smaller serving size.
Serve the Danish Apple
French Toast with the sliced sautéed apples on top, sprinkled with the
remaining cinnamon. It is great with powdered sugar, Splenda sugar
substitute, or sour cream on top, or you could use your favorite maple
syrup as a topper too.
