“Wear,
Oh Wear?” Building a Fashion Wardrobe You
Can Count On!
by Leanne Sabo
“I’ve got nothing to wear!” We’ve all said it at one time or
another, haven’t we? For many, it’s the perfect excuse to go
shopping. For others, it’s an exercise in frustration.
It needn’t be. You can – with a little bit of fashion savvy – take a minimum of 5 fashion garments and build a wardrobe capsule that will take you through the maximum number of occasions in style.
For starters, what’s your lifestyle? Are you a stay-at-home mom, businesswoman, party girl? What activities constitute the balance of your day? Do you spend a lot of time outdoors? Is the majority of your life spent on the road, living out of a suitcase? Now, go through your closet. Do you have everything you need to carry off your life…in style? Once you’ve made that determination, you can make room in your closet for the clothes that you really enjoy wearing.
Next question…does everything fit? Look in the mirror (a full length mirror) and try on everything. Yes, everything! Get rid of anything that’s a size too big or too small and toss garments that look like they’ve seen better days.
And don’t automatically discard that classically styled, season-less suit, pair of black pants, or little black dress. Classics – because of their simple lines and timeless style – tend to work well with most wardrobes and lifestyles. If they fit and are in good condition they’re ‘keepers.’ Simply add a few well-chosen accessories to suit your own personal style.
After you’ve gone through your closet, take stock of your remaining garments, determine what you’re still missing, and give me a call.
Weekenders’ wardrobe planning lets you create a fashionable wardrobe capsule that's perfect for your figure, your lifestyle, and is easy on your pocketbook. For a 10-piece wardrobe, choose 3 great colors – a neutral color to anchor your color scheme; another color for a touch of ‘spice;’ and, finally, a complementary color. Neutral Chocolate would be a perfect neutral to mix with say, Vanilla and Blossom. Toffee, Bluegrass, and Vanilla would be another terrific color combination, or choose one of your own! It’s that easy! Once you’ve determined your color scheme, I can help you create 3 monochromatic outfits in the styles and fabrics of your choice from our fabulous new 2007 Fall and Winter Fashion Collections!
If you want to start smaller, consider a 5-piece capsule. For instance, our Short Sleeve Mock Turtleneck, Gaucho, and Casual Jacket in Chocolate, combined with the Paisley Print Drape Skirt and Paisley Print Scoop Top gives you lots of options that can easily be converted into a 10-piece capsule with the addition of 2 more jackets, 2 bottoms, and one top.
Remember, value dressing means more than just putting garments together to create a coordinated outfit. It means being consciously aware of different ways to wear each and every item of clothing you purchase. Once you know what to look for, you’ll be able shop with confidence, mix and match to your heart’s content, and build a fabulous Weekenders wardrobe that will never let you down. The possibilities are endless!
I guarantee you’ll
go from having nothing to wear to “I have so many great choices, I
simply can’t decide WHAT to wear?”
