The popularity of ponchosThe Popularity of Ponchos
By Angela Ayles, Editor of Think Fashion

The great thing about the fashion industry is how certain trends have the ability to come in and out of style multiple times. Some of the hottest trends have been in and out of style over 6 times just in the past century. Ponchos have had their share of popularity in the fashion industry but that hasn’t stopped them from coming back in style with a vengeance. While some people detest the look of ponchos and wouldn’t wear one to save their life, others enjoy the look and appreciate the comfort and style of a poncho. Some of the fashion industry’s most notable designers have decided to include poncho lines in their latest collections.

Some of the latest trends of the year have evolved from trends of the past. Take leg warmers and skinny jeans as an example. These types of clothing were extremely popular in the 70’s and 80’s but the trend died off as the 90’s approached. We didn’t see these trends in the 90’s or even for the early part of the 2000’s but over the last year, the styles have made their mark (once again) on the fashion industry. Perhaps even more popular than the leg warmers or skinny jeans trend is the popularity of ponchos. Ponchos began as an accessory to an outfit. You would have your outfit and possibly throw on a poncho before you left your house. Now, they have become the focus of the outfit and can actually enhance the look of your outfit in a really significant way.

Some of the most renowned designers who have taken an interest in the popularity of ponchos include Roberto Cavalli, and Gucci. These collections feature a wide range of poncho styles in a multitude of colors and patterns. Burberry has also introduced their own line of designer ponchos which has been extremely successful with consumers over the past few months.

Although there are a number of prestigious labels who have incorporated ponchos into their collections, there are also a number of lower-end retailers to purchase from for individuals on a stricter budget. If you’re looking for an affordable and stylish way to spice up your wardrobe, consider purchasing a poncho – trust me, you won’t regret it.
