EVERY woman wishes she had a physical attribute she does not have! In my shop, Oceana Fashions, every day I hear, “I wish I had smaller hips,” “I wish I had bigger boobs,” “If I didn’t have this tummy I could wear more styles,” “if I was taller I could…” or “if I was smaller I could…” The point is we are what we are, so we need to learn to deal with it and make the best of our features, UNLESS we are serious about changing our image. Here are some tips to help you put your best foot forward. Big Bust: Choose styles with a wide open-neckline or v-neck. Forget blouses with patch pockets. Avoid wide horizontal stripes and short boxy shirts or jackets. Sleeve length should be below or above the bustline, not even with it. Small Chest: If you dare, plunging necklines are good. Looser fitting tops add bulk where there is none. Horizontal stripes are good for you. Short Legs: Long pants rather than Capri length make the leg appear longer. Shoes the same color as the pants add length also. Calf length skirts with matching boots are good or long skirts with matching shoes work well. Big Tummies: Choose over blouses that come to the hip line. Buttons should be able to close all the way down with no pulling. Knits tops, but not clingy, are good. Shirts worn open over a tank top that is NOT too tight AND matches the pants or skirt worn with it is a good camouflage. Belts worn below the waistline over a solid color top and pants set can work if the belt is not too tight or too big. Thick Waist: Tunic tops that skim the body and land about six inches below the waistline hide the waist. A sleeveless sheath dress with an over jacket works well. Blend tops and bottoms rather than contrast them: medium blue top with dark blue pants rather than white top with navy pants. Petites: Wear longer skirts with matching shoes to maximize height. Avoid large prints. Try matching color of pants and tops to elongate the body. Sleeves should be slim fit and hemmed to proper length. Wear vertical stripes. Plus Sizes: Avoid horizontal stripes and small prints. Print blouses with solid pants are better than an all one-color palette. Wear elongated necklaces with some substance: not thin chains, but thicker ropes that blend with your outfit. V-necks are better than round necks. Avoid too loose or too tight outfits. Both draw attention to one’s size. With these tips you can minimize those figure flaws that we all have!
