About Fallbrook, California

A destination for the finer things in life, Fallbrook is a quaint and scenic art community located in San Diego’s North County. Fallbrook is accessed off of Interstate 15 between Temecula and Escondido, and off of Highway 76 that runs from Oceanside to Lake Henshaw, and is just a thirty minute drive inland from the Pacific Ocean. Sitting at an elevation of 685 feet, the Fallbrook region has a mild year-round climate that boasts an annual rainfall of 16", an average temperature 61°F and an average high temperature of 76°F. Its temperate climate, rainfall, and fertile soil, make it the perfect place to garden and home to farms, nurseries, vineyards, and fruit, nut and a number of avocado orchards, agriculture is a part of Fallbrook’s history and economic foundation.

A blossoming art community, murals and sculptures are displayed throughout the "Village" and throughout other parts of town. Fallbrook’s historic downtown district features a number of fine art galleries such as the co-op Brandon Gallery, the Pinnell Gallery or the Fallbrook Fine Art Gallery. The Art Center hosts exhibits every month, including the well-known Wildlife Art Show, the National Art Gourd Show and the Galaxy of Glass show. The Artworks of Fallbrook, a bronze foundry, lets visitors see the entire bronzing process, and The Fallbrook School of Art has working studios where classes and workshops are held throughout the year. Just a short drive out of town to Palomares House, run by the Land Conservancy, there is a sculpture garden that depicts the flora and fauna of the region.

Early rural California/Fallbrook living is preserved and displayed in the Fallbrook Historical Society Museum and the Pittenger House, a turn-of-the-century farmhouse that is furnished with period pieces, vintage cars and farm implements. In the main Museum you can see historic Fallbrook in miniature, complete with a working model train.

There are a plethora off restaurants to frequent offering a taste of everything from light snacks and baked goods, to Mediterranean fare; soda fountain specialties to French and event Irish cuisine. Fallbrook is also home to The Fallbrook Winery, one of the leaders in California’s emerging South Coast region. Specialty shopping is a must during your visit. There are trendy boutiques, home décor shops, gift shops, books stores, jewelry shops and more. The downtown district also has free parking on Main Street, and in the parking lot behind the Art Center, off of Alvarado Street. Entertainment includes live concerts, theatre productions, art shows and exhibits, and the nearby casinos in Pala and Valley Center.

The natural beauty of Fallbrook makes it an ideal place for hiking, riding and birding. Home to the Santa Margarita River, the last free-flowing river in Southern California, it is one of the most scenic spots in California. Hiking areas include panoramic views of Palomar Mountain, lookouts over the Santa Margarita Valley, vistas of the Pacific Ocean, peaceful meadows lined with sycamores, willows and oaks, and bird-rich wetlands habitats--all protected and maintained by the Land Conservancy. There is also tennis and golf to be enjoyed at the resorts, like Pala Mesa, which has an award-winning 18-hole, par 72 course.

Home to approximately 43,000 residents, Fallbrook is adjacent to Bonsall and De Luz, and is near Escondido, Temecula, Oceanside, and Vista. Fallbrook offers hotel lodging, resort accommodations, or if you are looking for a more intimate setting, try one of the local Bed & Breakfast Inns. Visit Fallbrook any time of year--an oasis of culture and art in a garden setting.
