May 1, 8, 15: Beginning Birding Walks: 8am-10am. Join leader David Lasley on this weekly Thursday morning bird walk. Learn to identify desert birds and about bird behavior and nesting habits. Meet at Club Circle Resort, at the south end of Marker south of Tilting T. Bring binoculars, bird book, water, walking shoes, and dress for outdoors. No charge. May 18: Wildflowers – Mother Nature’s Gifts to Humanity: Winter rains should mean May flowers in the mountains! Enjoy the spring wildflower display at the former Tulloch Ranch, now part of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Moderate hike (2-3 miles long) over fairly level terrain, with State Park plant experts. June 14: Ranchlands to Parklands: Livestock ranchers in the 20th century had to be quite resourceful in order to wrest a living from the Cuyamaca Mountains. We’ll spend some time on two former ranches—the Tulloch and the Lucky 5—that have recently been added to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, and learn about some of the ways early settlers were able to overcome adversity and recycle materials at hand to build their lives here.
