CHAKRAS by Rev. Linda Swartz

Chakras can be defined as subtle energy vortexes within the body that align with the spine. The ones addressed here are located from the base of the tailbone to the crown of the head. These are metaphysically explained as a connection between the physical and the Spiritual. The origin of this concept can be traced back to ancient Eastern Indian/Hindu beliefs.

There are seven major chakras (although it is believed that there may be many more) that have been identified. Since each one is linked to a specific organ, energy or endocrine gland, they help to keep the particular parts of the body and mind balanced. As such, this system is credited with this balance when proper health and wellness are present, and imbalance when there is dis-ease or upheaval (physically, mentally, emotionally, Spiritually). With this acknowledgement, it can be understood why the interest in keeping the chakras balanced, cleared and/or aligned has become part of the holistic healing genre.

The following is how the chakras are usually described and/or identified;
