Located in Riverside Country along
Interstate 10, Banning is a quaint community located in the San
Gorgonio Pass, which is a natural break and overland trade route
through a mountain barrier formed by two peaks - Mt. San Gorgonio to
north, and Mt. San Jacinto to the southeast. With an average of 300
days of sunshine a year, Banning offers residents and visitors
excellent year-round weather, with temperatures that range between
45.4 and 74.8 degrees. Annual rainfall is approximately 17.89 inches.
Dubbed 'Stagecoach Town USA', Banning initially served as a stagecoach
and railroad stop between the Arizona territories and Los Angeles.
Incorporated as The City of Banning in 1913,
the community keeps rich heritage alive with the Annual Stagecoach
Days Parade & Celebration, which is held the last weekend of September
every year; and the Gilman Historic Ranch and Wagon Museum which
preserves and interprets the history of California from the Cahuilla
Indians to the settlement of Southern California, the San Gorgonio
Pass, and homestead ranch of James Marshall Gilman. In the historical
part of the city, Banning is also becoming an arts district featuring
murals, banners, and galleries.
