About Alpine, Arizona
Nestled at the
eastern edge of the White Mountains, Alpine was originally settled in
1876 and known as Bush Valley, and was later expanded by Mormon
Pioneers. Located just 6 miles from the Arizona-New Mexico border,
approximately 600 full time residents make this 8,000 foot mountain
community their home. Commonly called the "Alps" of Arizona, it is a
popular tourist destination and cool summer retreat. Surrounded by
pine trees, mountain lakes and streams, Alpine has become a popular
outdoor recreational area offering a plethora of activities that
include golf, skiing, camping at the Apache-Sitgreaves National
Forest, wildlife viewing, fishing, birding, hiking, and more. Alpine
is also near Lake Luna which is home to bald and golden eagles; the
Coronado Trail Scenic Byway; the Sipe White Mountain Wildlife Area;
and the Escudilla Wilderness.
Besides an active community theatre, popular annual events and
festivities include the Alpine Worm Races, Alpine Chili Cook-off, and
Alpine Ranch Days.
